March 26, 2009--East Rutherford, New Jersey Autumn Magic Wins Jersey Girls, Second Leg Autumn Magic, a daughter by Jenna's Beach Boy--Swinging Rita--Sweet Meadow Doc, captured the second $20,000 leg of the Jersey Girls Series at The Meadowlands on March 26, 2009 in 1:52 for driver Brian Sears and trainer Mark Kesmodel. The 4-year-old mare paced her last quarter in :27.4 en route to her one and a quarter length victory. It was Autumn Magic's third win in eight tries this year for owner Joseph Zicchino of Point Pleasant, New Jersey. This mare now has $163,128 in career earnings and $39,500 in seasonal monies in 2009.
March 23, 2009--Pompano, Florida Too Salty Captures Open Trot Too Salty, a son of SJ's Caviar--Valley Amber--Valley Victory, stormed to a 1:55 career-best clocking on March 23 at Pompano Park in rein to Joe Pavia, Jr. Doug Miller trains and co-owns the 5-year-old trotter, who captured his second straight win at the South Florida oval for co-owner Bill Weaver. Too Salty now has 12 wins, a trio of seconds and two thirds in 32 starts, and career earnings of $100,464.
Too Salty was bred by Bill Weaver's Valley High Stable and raised at Peninsula Farm, who will sell Always On The Move, an SJ's Caviar colt out of the mare Pursuing Keagan (a half-sister to Too Salty), this fall at the Standardbred Horse Sale at Harrisburg, PA
March 23, 2009--Dover, Delaware Idle Hour Wins Dover Open Pace Idle Hour, a son of Dragon Again--Lady Light--No Nukes, captured the $40,000 Open Pace at Dover Downs in 1:52.4 on March 23, for driver Jim Morand and trainer George Teague, Jr. The 4-year-old stallion now has nine wins, one second and four thirds in 26 career starts, and took his lifetime mark of 1:51.2 as a 3-year-old for owners Top Notch Racing, Elite Racing and Teague, Inc. of Delaware.
Idle Hour--a winner of $244,527 in his career--was bred, raised and sold by Peninsula Farm at the 2006 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. If I Remember, Idle Hour's half-brother from Ponder's first crop, will sell at the 2009 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.
March 16, 2009--Delaware, Ohio 166 Eligibles For 64th Little Brown Jug The $650,000-est. Little Brown Jug will be Thursday afternoon, September 24th at the Delaware, Ohio County Fairgrounds. A total of 166 three-year-old colts and geldings remain eligible to the Jug, an increase of 22 over last year’s pool total.
“Our estimated Jug purse is up significantly from last year,” said Race Secretary Tom Wright. “These are the most eligibles we’ve had in six years. If everybody stays healthy we should be in for a fun time come September.”
The Little Brown Jug is the second leg of Pacing’s Triple Crown. The first leg is the Cane Pace scheduled for September 7th at Freehold. If a horse wins the Cane Pace, but is not eligible to the Jug, his owner(s) may pay a $45,000 supplemental starting fee.
