January 23, 2010--East Rutherford, New Jersey Real Joke Captures $90,000 Clyde Hirt Final Real Joke, a 4-year-old son of Real Desire--Kiddingonthesquare--Artsplace, captured the $90,000 Clyde Hirt Final on Jan. 23 at The Meadowlands, pacing in 1:51 for driver Andy Miller and trainer Julie Miller. Real Joke reached the half in a brisk 55.3 seconds and surged up to take the lead from Magicmaker Hanover. Real Joke faced pressure from Woodstock Hanover around the far turn and the two horses dueled through the lane until Woodstock Hanover eventually gave way. With Majestic Jackpot stoutly closing on the far outside, Real Joke gamely dug in for a half-length victory. It was the fourth straight win in 2010 for owners Brian Gordon, Toby Rekoon, and Stewart Goldberg of New Jersey. Real Joke now has $73,500 in seasonal earnings and $87,335 in career earnings. Real Joke sold for $57,000 in the Peninsula Farm consignment at the 2007 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale for breeders Dr. John Cummins and Genesis Racing.
January 18, 2010--East Rutherford, New Jersey Raising Rachel Tops Broodmares at Big M Sale Raising Rachel, consigned by Peninsula Farm in The Meadowlands Mixed Sale on Jan. 18, held in the Big M paddock, brought top dollar among all broodmares sold that day. The 4-year-old daughter of Yankee Glide was purchased by David Elwell on behalf of Arlene and Jules Siegel's Fashion Farms, with a final bid of $255,000.

The bay gelding stopped the timer in 1:59 for driver David Miller and trainer Tony Alagna, who conditions Pow for owners the M&J Stables of Monee, Illinois. Bred by the Hunter Farm of Alexis, IL, Pow pushed his career earnings to $32,601 with the victory, the seventh of his career in 30 lifetime starts. |
